Karen Durango Restrepo, destacada como la deportista colombiana con el mayor número de podios en los XIX Juegos Bolivarianos 2022, obtuvo once medallas en natación (5 de oro, 4 de plata y 2 de bronce), durante las competencias que se llevaron a cabo del 24 de junio al 5 de julio, en Valledupar.
Karen, estudiante, orgullo del Tecnológico de Antioquia es una deportista de alto rendimiento, que ha alcanzado grandes logros en torneos nacionales, panamericanos, ahora en los bolivarianos y se prepara para los Juegos Olímpicos París 2024. Con miras a dicho evento mundial fue becada por la Federación Internacional de Natación -FINA- para viajar a Rusia para un proceso de preparación específica con el propósito de seguir mejorando sus tiempos, pues la antioqueña es una de las promesas deportivas del país con miras no solo a los Juegos Olímpicos de París sino de Los Ángeles 2028.
Karen Durango estudia el programa de Profesional en Criminalística del TdeA. Nació en 4 de octubre de 2001, en Medellín. Es la hija única de Paola Andrea Restrepo Hoyos y Bayro León Durango. Para ella, la natación ha sido su pasión y vida, que combina con esfuerzo con los estudios universitarios. Su fuerte son los 200 metros mariposa, por lo que metafóricamente se ha dicho de ella que es como “una mariposa que vuela en el agua”.
Leonardo García Botero, rector del TdeA, felicitó a la deportista por su compromiso y disciplina, al alcanzar grandes logros en la natación y constituirse en un ejemplo de la comunidad institucional. También, la Institución Universitaria exalta la representación de nuestro país, que se coronó como delegación campeona de los bolivarianos, entre once naciones participantes. Colombia alcanzó un total de 354 medallas: 171 de oro, 104 de plata y 79 de bronce.

Karen Durango: TdeA’s Pride
Karen Durango Restrepo, highlighted as the Colombian athlete with the highest number of podiums in the XIX Bolivarian Games 2022, won eleven medals in swimming (5 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze), during the competitions that took place from June 24 to July 5, in Valledupar.
Karen, student, pride of the Tecnológico de Antioquia is a high-performance athlete, who has achieved great rewards in national tournaments, Pan American, now in the Bolivarian Games and is preparing for the Olympic Games in Paris 2024. With a view to this world event, she was awarded a scholarship by the International Swimming Federation -FINA- to travel to Russia for a specific preparation process with the purpose of continuing to improve her times, since the Antioquian is one of the sporting promises of the country with a view not only to the Olympic Games in Paris, but also to Los Angeles 2028.
Karen Durango studies the Professional in Criminalistics program of the TdeA. She was born on October 4, 2001, in Medellín. She is the only child of Paola Andrea Restrepo Hoyos and Bayro León Durango. For her, swimming has been her passion and life, which she combines with effort and with her university studies. Her forte is the 200-meter butterfly, so metaphorically it has been said of her that she is like "a butterfly that flies in the water".
