El rector, Leonardo García Botero, entregó la bandera institucional a la basquetbolista y estudiante Yuliany Maryelis Paz Perea, quien encabezará, junto con la atleta Rosangélica Escobar Arriaga, la delegación de 35 deportistas que representará al TdeA Institución Universitaria en los XXXI Juegos Universitarios Nacionales 2024.
A las justas, que se realizarán entre el 20 de septiembre y el 2 de octubre en Pereira, asistirán 6 mil participantes que se disputarán las preseas en 23 disciplinas deportivas y que pertenecen a las universidades colombianas de los nodos Centro, Oriente, Antioquia, Bogotá, Occidente y Caribe. La delegación de casa competirá en fútbol sala, baloncesto, natación subacuática, levantamientos de pesas, atletismo y taekwondo.
En la tarde del 16 de septiembre, la comunidad universitaria despidió con música y los mejores deseos a la delegación de estudiantes deportistas. “Los Juegos Nacionales para nuestro TdeA son una fiesta”, así comenzó su saludo el rector a la delegación, quien destacó que la institución hace ingentes esfuerzos, desde Bienestar Universitario, para mejorar la participación en estos encuentros deportivos. Asimismo, expresó su total confianza en el trabajo de preparación realizado por el grupo que parte hacia el Eje Cafetero.
“Este es el momento en que todo el esfuerzo, cada entrenamiento, cada gota de sudor, cada sacrificio y cada victoria personal, se convierte en una oportunidad de nuevos aprendizajes. Ustedes ya son grandes y lo han venido demostrando desde siempre en nuestra institución universitaria. Cuando salgan a competir recuerden que el verdadero éxito no es solo ganar sino dar lo mejor de cada uno de ustedes. Cada paso que den, denlo con valentía y confianza, no importa cuan duro sea el reto. La entrega de la bandera es una exaltación y reconocimiento no solo a la constancia sino también la perseverancia y disciplina de nuestros mejores deportistas. Seguimos trabajando para el deporte del TdeA, para que siga creciendo, ofreciendo alegrías y continúe siendo fuente de orgullo e inspiración. Vayan a estos Juegos Nacionales con la convicción de trascender. Les agradecemos mucho por elegir ser deportistas TdeA. Muchos éxitos, muchachos”, alentó García Botero a la delegación, que además recibió el escudo institucional.
La abanderada, Yuliany Maryelis Paz Perea, hizo sentir el orgullo propio y de sus compañeros al asumir este desafío: “Todos queremos mucho al TdeA, el hecho de ir a representarlo nos hace muy felices. Esperamos poder traer el título a la Universidad, vamos con todas las expectativas de quedar campeonas. Queriendo Dios, yo sé que nos va a ir muy bien. Vamos a darla toda por dejar el nombre del Tecnológico de Antioquia en alto”, es importante destacar que la estudiante de segundo semestre de Trabajo Social es además parte de la Selección Colombia de Baloncesto y participó en los Juegos Suramericanos.
El año anterior, en la edición XXX de este certamen, organizado por la Asociación de Universidades de Colombia -ASCUN-, los deportistas se destacaron trayendo a casa seis medallas de oro y una de bronce, ubicando al Tecnológico de Antioquia en la casilla 17 entre 128 instituciones de educación superior de todo el país, la mayoría con gruesas delegaciones, pues esta meritoria tarea se cumplió con solo 19 deportistas TdeA. Las expectativas hablan de cinco medallas para este año: dos oros, una plata y dos bronces. Sin duda, no se reservarán nada para conseguir los más altos logros deportivos posibles. “El año pasado tuvimos una muy buena figuración en términos de resultados. Esperamos no ser inferiores al reto este año”, destacó Jair Stivinson Salas, líder del Componente Vida Deportiva y Recreativa de Bienestar Universitario, quien agregó que en cada edición cambia el tablero de juego, pero que van preparados y con mentalidad ganadora.
“Se ha hecho un excelente proceso de preparación de cara a estos Juegos Universitarios Nacionales Pereira – Armenia 2024. Algunos de nuestros representativos ya tienen a cuestas mucha experiencia en certámenes previos y también tenemos algunos otros que son novatos pero que llegan con toda la motivación y la actitud para representar a la institución de la mejor manera”, indicó Salas. El jefe de la delegación también resaltó que siempre las actuaciones en los escenarios deportivos hablarán del juego limpio y del espíritu deportivo, que se promueve en las políticas institucionales, buscando dejar en alto el nombre del Tecnológico de Antioquia y seguir posicionando este trabajo en los eventos deportivos de todos los ámbitos.
Cabe recordar que este encuentro está en el primer renglón de importancia en Colombia. “Este es el certamen, por excelencia, más importante a nivel universitario en todo el país. Acá se dan cita los deportistas más reconocidos, con más pergaminos, de todas las universidades”, enfatizó Jair Salas. Así que la sola participación ya los hace ganadores. President Presents TdeA’s Flag to our Athletes

He also expressed his total confidence in the preparation work carried out by the group that leaves for the Colombian Coffee region.
"This is the moment when all the effort, every training, every drop of sweat, every sacrifice and every personal victory, becomes an opportunity for new learnings. You are already great, and you have always been demonstrating it in our university institution. When you go out to compete, remember that true success is not only winning, but giving the best of each one of you. Every step you take, take it with courage and confidence, no matter how hard the challenge. The delivery of the flag is an exaltation and recognition not only of the sportsmanship, but also of the perseverance and discipline of our best athletes. We continue to work for the sports at TdeA, so that it continues to grow, offer joy and continue to be a source of pride and inspiration. Go to these National Games with the conviction of transcending. We thank you very much for choosing to be TdeA athletes. Many successes, men and women," García Botero encouraged the delegation, which also received the institutional shield.
The flag bearer, Yuliany Maryelis Paz Perea, made her own and her teammates feel proud by taking on this challenge: "We all love the TdeA very much, the fact of going to represent it makes us very happy. We hope to be able to bring the title to the University, we go with all the expectations of being champions. God willing, I know that we are going to do very well. We are going to give everything to leave the name of the Tecnológico de Antioquia well up high," it is important to note that the second-semester student of Social Work is also part of the Colombian Basketball Team and participated in the South American Games.
The previous year, in the 30th edition of this contest, organized by the Association of Universities of Colombia -ASCUN-, the athletes stood out by bringing home six gold medals and one bronze, placing the Tecnológico de Antioquia in 17th place among 128 higher education institutions throughout the country, most with large delegations, as this meritorious task was fulfilled with only 19 TdeA athletes. Expectations speak of five medals for this year: two golds, one silver and two bronzes. They will certainly hold nothing back to achieve the highest sporting achievements possible. "Last year we had a very good figure in terms of results. We hope not to be inferior to the challenge this year," said Jair Stivinson Salas, leader of the Sports and Recreational Life Component of University Welfare, who added that in each edition the game board changes, but that they are prepared and with a winning mentality.
"An excellent preparation process has been made for these Pereira – Armenia 2024 National University Games. Some of our representatives already have a lot of experience in previous competitions and we also have some others who are rookies but who arrive with all the motivation and attitude to represent the institution in the best way," said Salas. The head of the delegation also stressed that the performances in the sports scenarios will always talk about fair play and sportsmanship, which is promoted in institutional policies, seeking to leave the name of the Tecnológico de Antioquia high and continue positioning this work in sporting events of all areas.
It should be remembered that this meeting is in the first line of importance in Colombia. "This is the most important contest par excellence at the university level in the entire country. Here the most recognized athletes meet, with the most parchments, from all the universities," emphasized Jair Salas. So, the mere participation already makes them winners.
