El Tecnológico de Antioquia Institución Universitaria (TdeA) dio apertura a la Sala de Lactancia Materna para respaldar la salud y el bienestar de las madres y sus bebés, incentivar ese vínculo entre ambos durante los primeros meses del infante, apoyar a las madres que visitan las instalaciones y proporcionarles comodidad y privacidad.
Aunque lactar es un acto totalmente natural, el TdeA dispuso el espacio para que, además de dar leche materna a sus bebés, las mamás puedan almacenarla a una temperatura adecuada y recogerla cuando se requiera e, incluso, donarla a alguna madre que la necesite, explicó el médico Sergio Alarcón Betancourt, adscrito a Bienestar Universitario del TdeA.
Además, tendrán capacitaciones sobre nutrición, el significado de la lactancia y sus beneficios, así como actividades para las embarazadas, que incluyen ejercicios suaves, prácticas de relajación y estímulos para el bebé.
El enfoque humanista del Plan de Desarrollo “Ser hacer, trascender” ha permitido la concepción de espacios como la Sala de Lactancia Materna y el Aula Taller Pedagógico Infantil, que permite el cuidado a los hijos entre los 6 meses y los 4 años de los estudiantes, profesores y empleados del TdeA.
“Es un compromiso que hay desde la rectoría por generar todos estos nuevos espacios para nuestra comunidad académica. La Sala de Lactancia colinda con el Aula Taller Pedagógico previendo que son servicios complementarios. El 99% de nuestra población corresponde a estratos 1, 2 y 3 y el 68% de ese total es de mujeres. Esta es una Institución fundada y forjada por mujeres, donde la población más grande es femenina; nuestro objetivo es el de acompañarlas en lo más que podamos con acciones efectivas”: dijo el rector del TdeA, Leonardo García Botero.
Luisa Fernanda Londoño Gómez, docente de cátedra de Contaduría Pública del TdeA, es una de las beneficiarias de la Sala de Lactancia Materna, que la visita con su hijo Emmanuel, de 8 meses. “Para mí este espacio significa prudencia, porque no todo el mundo entiende que la lactancia es un acto natural, y tranquilidad, porque antes tenía que ir a la cafetería a guardar mi leche mientras llegaba a la casa. Yo noto que cada vez hay más madres en el TdeA, así que bienvenido este espacio”: explica la profesora.
La Sala de Lactancia Materna del TdeA cumple con todos los requerimientos que exige la ley, además, cuenta con personal especializado para atender a las usuarias y sus inquietudes con respecto al tema.
TdeA Opens Breastfeeding Room
Tecnológico de Antioquia University Institution (TdeA) opened the Breastfeeding Room to support the health and well-being of mothers and their babies, encourage that bond between the two during the first months of the infant, support the mothers who visit the facilities, and provide them with comfort and privacy.
Although breastfeeding is a totally natural act, TdeA provided the space so that, in addition to giving breast milk to their babies, mothers can store it at an appropriate temperature and collect it when required and even donate it to a mother who needs it, explained Dr. Sergio Alarcón Betancourt, member of TdeA’s University Welfare.
In addition, they will have trainings on nutrition, one about the meaning of breastfeeding and its benefits, as well as activities for pregnant women, including gentle exercises, relaxation practices and stimuli for the baby.
The humanistic approach of the Development Plan "To Be, to Do, to Transcend" has allowed the creation of spaces such as the Breastfeeding Room and the Children's Pedagogical Workshop Classroom, which allows for care of children between 6 months and 4 years of age of students, teachers, and employees at TdeA.
"It is a commitment from the president’s office to generate all these new spaces for our academic community. The Breastfeeding Room is it side-by-side of the Pedagogical Workshop Classroom, providing complementary services. A total of 99% of our population corresponds to income levels 1, 2 and 3 and 68% of that total are women. This is an Institution founded and forged by women, where the largest population is female; our goal is to accompany them as much as we can with effective actions": said the president of the TdeA, Leonardo García Botero.

"For me, this space means prudence, because not everyone understands that breastfeeding is a natural act, and peace of mind, because before I had to go to the cafeteria to store my milk while I got home. I notice that there are more and more mothers in the TdeA, so they are welcomed to this space": explains the teacher.
TdeA's Breastfeeding Room complies with all the requirements by law, in addition, it has specialized staff to attend to users and their concerns regarding the subject.
