La Facultad de Ingeniería del TdeA continúa su proceso de crecimiento y consolidación con buenas noticias para la comunidad universitaria, que responden a la innovación de sus procesos y programas. Se trata de la apertura de nuevas carreras, proyectos de investigación de impacto y eventos que posicionan a la institución en un referente a nivel regional, nacional e internacional.
“Para este 2025 se radicarán ante el Ministerio de educación Nacional tres nuevos programas: una especialización, una maestría y una nueva ingeniería; los cuales fueron aprobados por el Consejo Directivo el año pasado”, especificó el decano, Andrés Felipe Montoya Rendón.
- Maestría en Gestión del Riesgo y Sostenibilidad: se radicará en abril y busca formar profesionales en la prevención de riesgos desde un enfoque sostenible. La idea central es que la gestión del riesgo no debe ser reactiva, sino preventiva, integrando acciones que protejan tanto el medioambiente como a las personas.
- Especialización en Sostenibilidad: se radicará en mayo y estará alineada con los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible. Su enfoque no se limita al aspecto ambiental, sino que también incorpora dimensiones sociales y jurídicas; por lo tanto, cuenta con el respaldo de la Facultad de Educación y la Facultad de Derecho y Ciencias Forenses. Su estructura flexible permitirá que estudiantes de diversas disciplinas puedan acceder a este programa.
- Ingeniería Financiera: En junio se radicará este programa innovador, desarrollado en conjunto con la Facultad de Ciencias Administrativas y Económicas. Su objetivo es integrar conocimientos financieros con un enfoque ingenieril, permitiendo una interpretación más analítica y técnica de las finanzas.
Eventos académicos
Además de las novedades en el área académica, en 5 de abril la Facultad de Ingeniería fue sede del Festival Latinoamericano de Instalación de Software Libre (FLISoL), el evento más grande de software libre de Latinoamérica, que se desarrollará en tres espacios simultáneos: conferencias en el auditorio principal, exhibición de robótica en el CETI y de drones.
En el segundo semestre, se llevará a cabo el XI Seminario Internacional de Innovación e Investigación en Ingeniería de Software (SEIIIS 2025), un evento de gran relevancia para el área de sistemas y que ha ganado un espacio importante en la agenda TdeA y en el ámbito internacional.
Extensión e investigación
Asimismo, la Facultad está fortaleciendo su presencia en el territorio a través de programas de extensión. En este sentido, se ha identificado una necesidad de capacitación en ofimática, por lo que se han diseñado herramientas para brindar a los estudiantes de las regiones soporte en esta área.
De otro lado, la Facultad ha ganado reconocimiento en el ámbito universitario en el país, destacándose en diversas iniciativas. Un ejemplo significativo es la creación de la Red de Dendrocronología, donde el TdeA es una de las diez instituciones pioneras, un proyecto que genera impacto social al estudiar los anillos de los árboles para obtener información sobre eventos climáticos y ambientales. Además, se está finalizando una investigación sobre minería aurífera en el municipio de Nechí, centrada en el análisis de metales pesados presentes en los sedimentos y su impacto en la cadena alimenticia. Otra iniciativa destacada es la vinculación del TdeA a Econova, una red de aliados de Ecopetrol que desarrolla proyectos de eficiencia energética. Este logro representa un avance importante en el campo de la innovación y sostenibilidad. De igual forma la facultad es la representante de todas las facultades de ingeniería de las IES de Antioquia y del Choco ante el Consejo Profesional Nacional de Ingeniería y Afines.
Los proyectos y acciones de la Facultad de Ingeniería se articulan al Territorio TdeA, además se fortalecerán y dinamizarán en el nuevo Campus Aburrá Sur con la oferta de nuevos programas. Con estos proyectos y nuevas iniciativas, se reafirma el compromiso con la educación de calidad, la innovación y el impacto positivo en la sociedad y el sector productivo, concluye el decano, Andrés Montoya.

The School of Engineering at TdeA on the Path of Innovation
The School of Engineering at TdeA continues its process of growth and consolidation with good news for the university community, which responds to the innovation of its processes and programs. It involves the opening of new degree programs, impactful research projects, and events that position the institution as a reference at the regional, national, and international levels.
"For this 2025, three new programs will be submitted to the Ministry of National Education: one specialization, one master's degree, and one new engineering program; all of which were approved by the Board of Directors last year," specified Dean Andrés Felipe Montoya Rendón.
Master’s degree in Risk Management and Sustainability: it will be established in April and aims to train professionals in risk prevention from a sustainable approach. The central idea is that risk management should not be reactive, but preventive, integrating actions that protect both the environment and people.
Specialization in Sustainability: it will be established in May and will be aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals. Its focus is not limited to the environmental aspect, but also incorporates social and legal dimensions; therefore, it is supported by the School of Education and the School of Law and Forensic Sciences. Its flexible structure will allow students from various disciplines to access this program.
Financial Engineering: This innovative program, developed in conjunction with the School of Administrative and Economic Sciences, will be launched in June. Its objective is to integrate financial knowledge with an engineering approach, allowing for a more analytical and technical interpretation of finance.
Academic events
In addition to the news in the academic area, on April 5th, the School of Engineering hosted the Latin American free software install fest (FLISoL, for its acronym in Spanish), the largest free software event in Latin America, which took place in three simultaneous spaces: conferences in the main auditorium, a robotics exhibition at the CETI, and a drone exhibition.
In the second semester, the XI International Seminar on Innovation and Research in Software Engineering (SEIIIS 2025) will be held, an event of great relevance for the systems area that has gained an important place on the TdeA agenda and in the international arena.
Extension and research
Likewise, the School is strengthening its presence in the territory through extension programs. In this regard, a need for training in office automation has been identified, so tools have been designed to provide support to students in the regions in this area.
On the other hand, the School has gained recognition in the university sphere in the country, standing out in various initiatives. A significant example is the creation of the Dendrochronology Network, where TdeA is one of the ten pioneering institutions, a project that generates social impact by studying tree rings to obtain information about climatic and environmental events. Additionally, research on gold mining in the municipality of Nechí is being finalized, focusing on the analysis of heavy metals present in sediments and their impact on the food chain. Another notable initiative is the connection of TdeA to Econova, a network of Ecopetrol allies that develops energy efficiency projects. This achievement represents an important advance in the field of innovation and sustainability. Similarly, the School represents all engineering Schools of higher education institutions in Antioquia and Chocó before the National Professional Council of Engineering and Related Fields.
The projects and actions of the School of Engineering are integrated into the “Territorio TdeA” and they will be strengthened and supported in the new Aburrá Sur Campus with the offering of new programs.
